Beatriz Nones:
the story behind her pelicans

The photographer shares the origin of the images she presented in the exhibition “Naturalezas no humanas” (“Non-human Natures”).

A visit to Caleta Tancah gave Beatriz Nones an opportunity to observe the behavior of pelicans and create, through photography, a story about the ways they gathered, moved apart and interacted.

The story behind the images

Using a Canon 80D camera and a 50 mm lens, Beatriz photographed pelicans at rest and in flight, along with the rocks and sediment exposed beside the sea. When she reviewed the photographs, she discovered that together they could be seen as a short visual story.

The birds appeared to gather, observe one another and separate in ways that recalled certain human behaviors. This connection between nature and observation shaped the four images presented in the exhibition.
